Ah, spring. It’s the season for budding flowers, greenery coming out of hibernation after a long winter, and… oh yeah, cleaning!

Turmeric has a long history of having anti-inflammatory properties. And since most experts — MDs and naturopaths alike — agree that inflammation is the cornerstone of disease, it’s important to address any internal inflammation you may have going on. Ginger is great for digestion, so the combination of these two ingredients makes for a powerfully healing elixir that will leave you feeling great.
1 handful of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
1 handful of fresh turmeric, peeled and chopped
The juice of 1 lemon
¼ tsp ground black pepper
12 cups of filtered water
1 tbsp raw honey (optional)
Place the ginger, turmeric, pepper and water in a soup pot. Bring to a boil. Turn down to a simmer so that the water is gently bubbling. Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain the ginger and turmeric out of the water using a colander. Squeeze the lemon juice into the elixir. Sweeten with honey, if desired. Serve warm or cold.
