Los Angeles can’t get enough of The Now, a.k.a the hottest new massage boutique in town. Curated to perfection, the spa’s bohemian-chic atmosphere is the ideal place to relax and unwind – and their instagram is a great source of daily inspiration.
We recently caught up with The Now’s female founders, Gara Post and Erica Malbon, and quickly realized that these ladies are just as cool and laid back as the business they’ve cultivated.
We consider ourselves a massage boutique. The concept is a cross between a luxury day spa and a walk-in neighborhood massage spot. Our goal is to provide high quality and consistent service in a tranquil environment.
There was a clear void in the marketplace and we wanted to provide a space for people to unplug and reconnect.
Massage is not only a therapeutic tool for the body, but is medicinal for mind and spirit as well. When you give the body time to slow down you allow the body and mind to naturally balance. Learning how to slow down the fluctuations of mind is a profound practice of presence. We hope that through the therapeutic use of touch the client will have time and space to practice being in The NOW.
Customers can choose from a menu of services carefully curated under the guidance of our Massage Ambassador. We also offer add-ons, which include collagen eye masks, aromatherapy and digestive care. Services are available in two rooms – both areas provide services that are distinct and personalized.
The Journey Room, our hand foot area, is intended to provide an alternative to the traditional idea of massage. Customers can opt for a more “social” experience; whether you want to enjoy happy hour with friends, host a birthday party, bridal or baby shower, holiday party or pop up event. The Journey Room is versatile in that customers can converse; check e-mails or opt to zone out with ear buds and eye masks that we provide depending on their mood or the occasion.
The Moment Room is intended for the traditional full body massage experience. Relax to soothing sounds in this airy white washed space – each secluded area offers a small private oasis ideal for a 25, 55 or 85 minute private service.
We both love sitting together in the Journey Room with our beauty sleep eye masks and getting the Roots Massage. We can both sit with our laptops and chat about business while enjoying the benefits of massage. When we are in the mood for the Moment Room, Gara is a big fan of the Traveler Massage paired with the Amma essential oil. Erica prefers our signature massage, The NOW paired with the Shukin essential oil.
There was absolutely a learning curve but it was so exciting for us to delve into this new business and learn about the wellness space. The most challenging part is getting into our rhythm and putting our team in place.
The response has been so overwhelming in a positive way which validates our mission to educate and provide massages as a tool for relaxation. People are benefiting from what we are offering which has been so exciting for us.
If you are passionate about something or you are creatively inspired, then you need to take a chance. It’s really about doing something you love and creating a brand you believe in.
Our hashtag is #MassagesForAll. We think people are attracted to The Now because our view comes from an honest place. Also, we’ve designed the space in a way that feels like a luxurious vacation. And who doesn’t want to go on a great vacation?
We feature 9 different blends of oils by Jiva Apoha at The Now. Clients have the option of smelling the different oils prior to their treatment to see which scent resonates with them most. They are all natural, balancing and made with 100% herbs, plants, flowers, minerals, and therapeutic essential oils. Gara and Erica’s personal favorites are Amma and Sukhin.
We are inspired by so many of the strong independent women that are running their own companies today and balancing family life and their responsibilities at home with work. So many women today are forging the way for our daughters to be tomorrow’s CEOs.
Grateful. The key to being happy in business and in life is to appreciate the small wins and not get stuck on what is going wrong at any given moment. Gratitude goes a long way. Live in The Now.
