The healing practice of Reiki is used for optimal health, personal growth and transformation. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, established five principles as a guideline for a fulfilled life, which were adopted from the Meji Emperor of Japan. These principles are taught to everyone taking a first Reiki course. In my opinion, these guidelines are similar to the ancient teachings of many cultures and can be easiliy applied to our daily lives.
Below are 5 Reiki principles to follow for a more fulfilling day.
Become aware of your emotions. When anger arises, take a few breaths, and see if you can calm yourself down. Anger hurts yourself and others, so try not to identify with your emotions, but find a way to bring balance and harmony to your day.
We cannot change anything with worry. Worry arises when we are afraid of change, feel a loss of control, and when we see ourselves as separate from the universe. Instead of worrying, take action to change a situation. Hold on to your fellow travelers, support each other; we are all on the same journey.
When you wake up in the morning, what are you grateful for? When you go to bed at night, what are you grateful for? Try expressing your gratitude in a way that works for you, such as seva (selfless service), prayers, journaling or chanting. Gratitude also depends on our perception. Not everything that we label as good may continue to be so, and the same goes for the opposite. Trust that the universe has your back.
Work on learning and growing more each and every day. Devote some time every day to your spiritual practice. Keeping a regular schedule can be hard work, but know that it is worth it.
Being kind starts with you. Invest in your own self-care, and notice your thoughts, words and actions toward yourself. Practice being kinder to yourself and others. Be aware of your thoughts, actions, words and deeds toward others. Be loving, kind and compassionate to all beings.
