Apps to Improve Mindfulness

Technology often gets a bad rap because it promotes multitasking, causing us to disregard the now and miss what’s going on right before our eyes. However, there are positive ways to use technology to stay present in our daily lives! These five apps are great resources to promote mindfulness, positivity and mental focus.

1. MINDFULNESS

Scientific studies have shown that meditating for 20 minutes a day alleviates stress and promotes mental awareness. The Mindfulness App by MindApps is a great resource for guided meditations. You can choose a voice guide (by some of the most well-known meditation teachers in the world!) or silence with the sounds of bells ringing sporadically. The app also includes pop up reminders and allows you to track your practice to see how you’ve progressed over time.

2. SOCIIDOT

Sometimes our biggest life goals can feel overwhelming and unattainable, leaving us wondering how to actually achieve them. The Sociidot App is a helpful remedy for this feeling. The app is basically a life coach that encourages you to break down your goals into manageable chunks, making it easier to stay focused. You can create a roadmap for the life you want and connect the dots to get yourself closer to your main goal.

3. HAPPIFY

Train your brain to be happy each and every day with the Happify App by Happify, Inc. Developed with leading scientists, Happify empowers you to live a happier, more fulfilling life through a set of personalized activities based on research from psychologists and neuroscientists. The app will actually train you to disrupt patterns of negative thinking, manage stress and build skills to overcome various life challenges.

4. UNIQUE DAILY AFFIRMATIONS

If you don’t have a lot of free time in your busy schedule, the Unique Daily Affirmations App by Gopher Apps is a great fit for you. It’s quick and simple to use — just hold down a button to reveal your daily affirmation and repeat the statement out loud or in front of the mirror. With one affirmation per day, you can practice being present and embrace your own personal goals.

5. PERSONAL ZEN

If you love playing games, the Personal Zen App by Hadley Harris is the perfect option for you. Developed by Dr. Dennis and researchers from Hunter College, the app reduces anxiety by training your brain to focus more on the positive and less on the negative – simply by playing a fun game! Use the app for 10 minutes a day for enduring positive effects or right before a stressful situation to put yourself in a positive mindset.
