Waterside Reading List
True, a rainy Saturday is pretty ideal for curling up with a cup of tea and a good book, but taking in a can’t-put-it-down read while sipping a fruity cocktail alongside a pool or the ocean on a perfect, sunny, summertime day might be even more satisfying. To make your waterside reading a sure-to-please experience, we’ve rounded up five titles to add to your summer reading list:
1. Good As Gone by Amy Gentry
A 13-year-old girl goes missing from her Houston home in the middle of the night, leaving a devastated family in her wake. Then, miraculously, a woman shows up years later claiming to be the long-lost daughter. This pick is a page turner right from the start.
2. Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty
This prolific Australian author has penned lots of best sellers, including the book-turned-HBO-miniseries hit Big Little Lies, starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. (That series is definitely worth checking out, by the way, as is the book it’s based on.) Moriarty’s other titles are worth checking out, too, including Three Wishes, which follows the lives of three triplet sisters as they navigate life in their 30s.
3. Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman
Whether you’re a fan of the Netflix series of the same name or not, this is a book worth checking out. Kerman’s firsthand account of spending a year in a women’s prison after getting convicted for drug-related activities offers a meaningful glimpse into the American prison system told through the author’s experience and the personalities she meets during her months behind bars.
4. Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Told in a Sliding Doors-style fashion, this novel explores what potential paths 29-year-old Hannah’s life would take based on a single decision. Told in a side-by-side narrative, the book begs the question: how much of life is predetermined versus left up to chance?
5. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Can finding a partner be boiled down to science? Don, a socially inept genetics professor, aims to find out in this simultaneously funny and heartwarming novel that explores all kinds of relationships. (Bonus: If you love it, there’s already a sequel – The Rosie Effect.)
