Roadtrips for Lovers
Flowers and nice dinners are great and all, but if you’re ready to step things up this Valentine’s Day and really do something special, it might be time to plan a last-minute romantic getaway for you and your special someone. And, since the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, it’s the ideal time to make a weekend of it.
There are sure to be some perfect spots in your neck of the woods. Here are 5 of our favorites.
1. Napa Valley, California
You can’t find a much more ideal intersection of wine, food, and relaxation than Napa Valley. With countless vineyards to visit and your pick of romantic lodging, this would be a great spot to spend Valentine’s Day weekend.
2. Charleston, South Carolina
Classically southern in all the best ways, Charleston’s beautiful architecture, coastal setting, and cobblestone-street walkability – not to mention its mouthwatering southern food options – mean it’s oozing with romance. Consider going the bed and breakfast route for extra charm.
3. Aspen, Colorado
Snowy weather means skiing and snuggling. What better way to spend a romantic weekend with your Valentine? This city is a breathtakingly beautiful one, and you’ll find your fill of upscale lodging and memorable restaurants. (And don’t cross this one off the list if the slopes aren’t your thing: there are wonderful museum, gallery, and shopping options here, too!)
4. Key West, Florida
If you want to flee from the cold this Valentine’s Day, trek down to Key West, where the average temp in February is 76 degrees. Take in the beachside scenery, relax together, and soak up the sun before heading back to reality.
5. Sedona, Arizona
Though it’s chilly in the evenings this time of year in Sedona, the days warm up to the low 60s – perfect weather for exploring the city’s sandstone buttes. Once you and your Valentine have enjoyed the outdoors, take it inside for a romantic couples massage at one of the city’s many spas.
