Here at Beyond Yoga, we live to celebrate every woman and what makes her uniquely beautiful. It’s about being authentic and real — and rising above the impossible standards of beauty so often promoted by the media. And so, as the capstone of our ten year anniversary season, we were inspired to create a very special collaboration around our biggest brand value: body positivity.
We partnered with the amazing non-profit RAW Beauty Talks, whose body positive mission really spoke to us. Five dollars of every piece of the collection will go to their Free to Be program, which promotes body positivity for boys and girls grades six through eight. Together, we proudly stand strong for inclusivity, confidence and a mindful approach to real standards of beauty.
For this campaign, we chose a handful of real women who are making a positive impact in the world. They fearlessly agreed to embrace their raw beauty and step in front of our camera with no makeup and no retouching.
Meet our RAW beauties below, and hear what they have to say about the experience.
As the Founder of Healthy is the New Skinny, Katie works every day to challenge the media’s messaging. Her message is based on health and wellness — and reminding all women that they are lovable just as they are.
If appearance didn’t matter…
our society would finally value the true characteristics of people and the unique qualities that they possess. We’d have a lot better role models in the media and overall, I think we’d be able to accomplish more as a society.
Getting RAW was…
an eye-opening experience. It was a little bit of a shock at first, because I look different than normal after having a baby just one month ago. It was also very different from other shoots I’ve done where I have a hair and makeup team aiming for a specific look. Even though I don’t wear makeup most of the time, in a professional setting I always have hair and makeup so this was a fun way to challenge how I see myself. I realized that even though my body and personal beauty evolves and changes, it doesn’t have to mean better or worse. It’s just different. It’s important to enjoy loving both ways of your self, (the done up version and the RAW version) because at the end of the day, they’re both you.
overrated and misunderstood. “Beauty” as we know it is an idea that has been manipulated over and over again by the industry in order to gain a profit. I believe that beauty is more of a feeling rather than a “look.” When you challenge what you’ve been sold as beauty your entire life, you give yourself and opportunity to feel the true meaning of authentic beauty.
