Home Organization Hacks

The New Year inherently brings new goals and a renewed focus with it. Many of us view it as a time to take stock of our lives, our habits, and our health, and to make improvements across those categories. Calendars are blank – full of potential and ready for what’s to come – and our intentions are good.

Having an organized home is an important piece of all this. After all, ensuring that the place you rely on to relax and be yourself is free of unnecessary clutter, inefficiency, and the frustration that comes along with it can set you up for success in other areas of your life as well.

To help aide in your organizational venture (because let’s face it – it can be daunting to know where to start!), we’ve rounded up five home hacks that hopefully will arm you with some inspiration and motivation:

1. Pegboards are your friend

You can use them virtually anywhere – inside coat closet doors to organize items like umbrellas and pet leashes, in kids’ rooms to keep toys off the floor and easy to spot, in your garage to store tools neatly, etc. – to make your life so much easier. Try painting them to make them fit your home even more. [photo via homedit.com]

2. Use garment bags as wrapping paper holders

That way, you can hang your rolls of wrapping paper up vertically and they’ll take up a tiny amount of space. The days of shoving rolls of wrapping paper under a bed or propping them up in the corner of a spare room can be behind you! [photo via thechicsite.com]

3. Turn a picture frame into a dry erase board

Frame a pretty piece of fabric or wallpaper, then mount the frame in a high-traffic area in your home. You can use a dry erase marker to write notes on the glass to remind yourself and family members of important to-dos! [photo via lovegrowswild.com]

4. Use magnets to your advantage

Mount a magnetic strip inside a medicine cabinet or bathroom drawer to conveniently hold things like tweezers, bobby pins, and nail clippers. [photo via marthastewart.com]

5. Tension rods are little miracles

Use them horizontally under a kitchen sink to hold cleaning supplies (hang the sprayer from the rod), or install them vertically in a kitchen cabinet to organize baking sheets and other accessories. [photo via marthastewart.com]
