Just Breathe

Since stress is a culprit for disease, relaxation is important for our health and well-being. A great way to release tension after a long day is to treat yourself to the healing scents of aromatherapy.

When it comes to relaxation, the best essential oils to use are Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Geranium and Sweet Orange. You can choose one or use them all – it’s up to you!

Below are 5 ways to use essential oils for relaxation. Just close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let the therapeutic properties of essential oils balance to your body, mind, emotions and spirit.

1. Use an aromatherapy burner or diffuser.

The use of an aromatherapy burner is so versatile! You can keep one in each room of your house to set different moods. Fill your aromatherapy burner with water first and then add about 10 drops of essential oils. The candle in the burner will soon transform your room into a spa.

2. Add to a hot bath.

Allow your tired body or feet to sink into a hot bath and soak up the therapeutic qualities of both water and aromatherapy. For a full bath, I recommend 5 to 10 drops of pure essential oils mentioned above, especially Lavender. For a foot-only bath, use 3 to 5 drops.

3. Massage into pressure points.

A therapeutic way to apply essential oils is by massage – specifically on your feet, since they offer a multitude of acupressure points. Warm up some coconut oil and place about 1 oz. in a small bowl. Then, add 12 drops of essential oils to your base oil and blend. Massage your own feet or ask a loved one to rub your feet for you. Ahhhh… enjoy!

4. Make your own body mist.

Prepare your body mist ahead of time. Use a 4 oz. bottle and fill 3/4 of your bottle with filtered or spring water. Then, add about a teaspoon of glycerin, and 48 drops of essential oils – I recommend using plenty of lavender. Close the lid, shake the bottle well and spray it generously all over your body, making sure to close your eyes. Shake well before every use. Store the bottle in a dark, dry and cool environment.

5. Add to your night face cream.

At bedtime, add a drop of lavender essential oil to your night cream and gently massage into your face. You may even like to close your eyes as you draw small circles around your temples and inhale the relaxing lavender fragrance. Take a few deep breaths, then gently open your eyes. Welcome back to harmony!
