5 Ways to Detoxify Your Brain
It is very important for us to take care of our brains. There is always so much emphasis on taking care of our physical body, but not much on taking care of our mental self. But, the brain is actually the most important muscle in the body — i mean, really, what would we do without it? So, take some time this season to spring clean your mind.
Here are 5 ways to detoxify your brain this season:
1. Be active daily
Being active is not a chore — it’s an activity that helps clear your mind of daily stress. Whether you go for a walk or run, or take an intense workout class, being active transfers your mental energy to physical energy. The result? Your mind gets those wonderful endorphins going, making room for positive thoughts.
2. Review & put bills on autopay
Bills, bills, bills! They can be so time (and money) consuming. From music and TV streaming subscriptions, to apps that you no longer use, it’s a good idea to go through your bank and credit card statements quarterly to make sure you are only paying for things you use regularly. Once you decide which services are worth keeping, put those bills on autopay so that they’re automatically deducted from your account when due. This will clear up more time in your mind, and schedule.
3. Start buying in bulk
There are certain things that we will always need. Soap, toilet paper, hair products, for example, never expire and make more sense to buy in bulk. Instead of having to make lists and extra trips to the store, start buying in bulk. This will keep you prepared and it will eliminate yet another chore, freeing up time and headspace for other important tasks and people.
4. Stop, drop, relax
More often than not we go from work to work! Whether it’s finishing up work-related tasks, grocery shopping, cleaning, or doing chores, it’s often hard for us to stop & drop stressful tasks, and just relax. The best way to implement the transition is to make relaxation a habit. Pick a realistic time to shut everything off and wind down. Grab a glass of wine, cook dinner, listen to music, play with your children, talk to your husband or best friend… do something you enjoy to get your mind off of daily stressors. Your mind and brain will thank you.
5. Take an aromatherapy bath
So simple, yet so neglected! These days, most of us don’t take baths anymore. Remember when Nana would “draw you a bath”? The majority of us think of baths as being too much trouble, too time consuming, or something we do to be romantic. On the contrary, baths are relaxing, soothing and purifying for your entire body. Try adding essential oils or bath salts that help destress and refresh the brain, such as eucalyptus or lavender.
