There is a ton about travel that’s hard to beat. One of my personal favorites is finding cute, unique places to stay along the way. There’s so much beauty out there and I’m a firm believer in not leaving your accommodations out of the equation when you set out to find it — some of my fondest travel memories were spurred on by staying in really excellent places that are run by top-notch hosts.
Whether you’re planning your next getaway or you’re simply daydreaming from your desk job, take a look at these killer Airbnb listings that are practically guaranteed to get your wanderlust juices flowing (you’ve been warned).
This pretty thing is a loft space built right into the framework of a 19th century church and for a cool $153 a night, it can be where you rest your head. Gorgeous stained glass and traditional windows abound, leaving the space soaked in natural light, but if you need the real deal you can soak up some vitamin D in one of this space’s two (yes, two) terraces.
The exterior of this two bedroom house is crafted from (yep, you guessed it) tile! A combination of Mexican tile, smalti, handmade ceramics, fused glass, found desert tiles, stained glass, and ceramic bric-brac compose the surface that, if you can believe it, looks even better during the day when it’s covered in desert light. A stay in this slightly-off-the-beaten-path, $175 per night abode offers a luxurious solitude brought to you by things like a seven mile drive from town, a fireplace, a hot tub, and a built-in dog door for your pampered pup.
Located in a Midwestern fishing town, this pretty place was Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1939 dream home for the modern American family. If you’re a fan of architecture, then ladies and gents, this place is for you — it’s been featured on the Travel Channel’s Amazing Vacation Homes and The Fine Living Channel’s Around the World in 80 Homes and has been written about in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Town and Country and more. For a pretty penny ($425 a night) you can call this little slice of history home for a night or two.
If checking out that iconic Prada installation in Marfa, Texas is on your bucket list of things to do, why not stay in an airstream while you’re at it? This beauty of a travel trailer is about as chic and simple as it gets — the inside is white on white on white and super minimalist, too. These feats of design somehow manage to leave you with the feeling of lots of room in this compact, $90 per night space. And don’t you worry your pretty little head about keeping warm — it’s outfitted with a queen bed complete with a heating pad.
If you want to get real southern on a trip to the south, staying in an opulent mansion is a great way to do it. This beauty was constructed in 1887 and still has tons of original features, although it’s been restored (presumably for safety). $99 a night will get you your very own bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen on the second floor of this timeless mansion, accessed via a private courtyard passage that is sure to make anyone feel like a prince(ess).
And these gems are just the tip of the iceberg! Hopefully they’ve gotten you inspired to hit the road, kick up some dust, and see what kind of beauty you can find in unexplored corners of the world, even if it’s just a staycation in your own backyard for a weekend.
